The previous Face to Face With Greatness: A Thomas Jefferson
Education Seminar held in Portland, September
2008, and attended by people from Washington, the Greater
Portland Region, Salem and as far away as the San Fransisco
Bay Areas! The two days provided a unique
opportunity to discuss the information presented in Oliver
DeMille's book. The Seminar also discussed the cycles in
history and how they affect education today. Lots of
references to many more books to study in exploring more depth
on the material presented. A look back at some of the great men and
women who significantly influenced Math, Art and
Science in history had developed their genius through those
who mentored them, gave particpants examples of where
Leadership Education worked. There is an exahustive list
of classics on math, art and science to use with children
while they are very young, providing a foundation for them as
a spring-board for their own self-directed scholar phase was
quite enlightening. An overview on the Phases was
presented. The differences between book discussion vs colloquium were
explained and the insights gained by a simulation of a
colloquium were experienced. Emphasis was made on the need for
parents being mentored with their own educations were
motivating. Children follow the lead of their
parents and those with very young children certainly
felt that this has given them a significant head start in
helping prepare them for the 'school years' more
effectively. Those with older children learned ways in
which they can improve right now with the focus and
direction they are leading their children in. Motivation for parents to continue working on their own
adult scholar phase and how to get mentoring will
help prepare them more effectively for the developing
needs of their children. Participants were fed,
inspired and excited to the things they can do now to Inspire
the children in their lives. Seminar #2 TJEd Revisited: You, not Them is the Second in the Face to Face Series answers the major questions which Teachers and Parents find the greatest challenges with the transition of youth into scholar phase -- So this is one not to miss -- you may attend these seminars in any order! How can a generation that wasn’t mentored in
the classics, mentor their own children in the classics? | ||||||||
